The empty 450 rai plot of land that is now Talaad Thai was developed in the early ‘90s. Operations began in 1995 and the market officially opened to the public in 1997. The idea was to create a central market where producers and buyers could interact with each other and set reasonable prices for goods.

Over the years Talaad Thai has expanded to encompass a wide range of goods in over 20 individual markets, becoming the largest wholesale food market in South East Asia.
